The Riviera Maya is one of the touristiest areas of Mexico near Cancun. Mexican authorities decided in 1999 to give a boost to this area of the Caribbean coast, and today are visited by millions of tourists every year. It extends for 120 km of coastline and 200 km in its entirety, and extends from the town of Puerto Morelos in the north to the town of Punta Allen in the south. The Riviera Maya belongs to the Mexican state of Quintana Room.

In the continental region the climate is semi-tropical, with an average temperature of 26 degrees Celsius and can reach 35 degrees Celsius in summer. The highest temperatures are recorded between May and August. The rainy season covers September and October.

The official currency is the peso. One U.S. dollar equals approximately 10 Mexican pesos, which varies according wings exchange market fluctuations.
