Touring Australia
Australia has so much to offer, not only for its visitors but also its inhabitants. Australia’s history stretches as far as 50,000 years or more through the oldest living culture of people; the Aboriginal Australians. Australia is built not only on the Aboriginal history, but also of the Dutch explorers in the early 1600s and the British settlers who claimed much of Australia’s territory in the late 1700s as a British Commonwealth.
Australia is a wonderful mix of new and old, as well as of nature and urban environments, so if you’re ever to visit, it’s advised that you take as much of it in as possible to get a full grasp of exactly what Australia is all about.
Australia’s Aboriginal History
There are many ways to encounter the Aboriginal influence, from the nature preserves dotted around, the outback areas of Australia and even the major city regions such as Sydney and Melbourne.
The Aboriginal heritage can be seen in the art, music, dance, history and of course the land in Australia. There are various tours available to visitors to learn more about the history and culture from the Aborigines, who tell visitors of their old ways. Visitors are also able to learn some new skills such as learning to carve spears and crude weapons to catch fish and hunt. There are a number of outback territories including the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park in the Northern Territories of Australia, Kimberly in Western Australia, Coorong in Southern Australia and Gippsland in Victoria.
Food and Wine
The food and particularly wines in Australia are known the world over. Australia is the 4th largest international exporter of wine in the world, and with good reason too. Australia has well over 170 valleys and vineyards for visitors and locals alike to get their heads around, from the Yarra Valley, Swan Valley or the Hunter Valley to name a few of the more famous places.
Australia’s Coasts
Australia is also of course known for its beautiful and expansive coastlines – all 50,000 kilometres of it! Whichever part of the coast in Australia you find yourself you’re sure to find luscious beaches and coastal adventures whether you’re after a gentle swim, some deep sea diving, or even a thrill seeking surfing lesson. Notable coast lines include Byron Bay in New South Wales, Whitsundays in Queensland, the beautiful Gold Coast also in Queensland or Margaret River in Western Australia.
Australia’s Cities
Believe it or not, there’s more! Australia offers so much for so many people, whether you want a peaceful nature retreat, a thrill seeking coastal adventure or even a city break in a thriving cosmopolitan city. Australia’s most populous cities are of course its capital of Sydney, home to the stunning Opera House and Harbour bridge, and also Melbourne, home to the swanky boutiques, bars and its famous nameless laneways full of hidden gems from shopping, dining or entertainment.
Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Darwin also provide visitors with a unique, typically Aussie welcome and are definitely worth checking out on a tour of Australia!
